Ran the Race!
Monday, February 16, 2009
After being warned by the doctor, my husband, and anyone else that wanted to share an opinion, I ran the Austin 1/2 marathon with Juli on Sunday. My foot had been feeling much better since Wed., and I was feeling no pain that morning and decided to give it a shot. At mile 1 we were blissful... talking about how much fun this was, and how easy it was, and how we were going to do these forever. By mile 5, Juli was still going strong, and I was in agony. I started running on my toes at this point because the back of my foot felt like the bone was crushing into the pavement. I wanted to stop, and I did walk for a minute. I just didn't even know how I would get back to the starting line, and it hurt just as bad to walk as to run. So I tried to keep up. By mile 9 I knew I could make it, and again, Juli was still doing great. But I did have to stop and stretch that leg and foot-- I think at this point my foot was going numb (how smart am I???!!!). By mile 11 my foot was definitely numb and I felt really good- better than I had felt the entire race. I hit my second wind by mile 12, and by mile 13 we were trucking to the finish line. We finished in about 2:34- a little less than a 12 minute mile pace (thought it was 2:25 but official results came this morning). Although every other muscle in our bodies were killing us, my foot felt fine- no pain at all. Until this morning! I woke up and knew immediately the boot would be going back on. I truly hope I didn't do any more damage to my foot, and I know this was not a smart thing to do. But for me, I feel like I have not followed through with so many things over the past few years, and it is important to me to show Channing that you can be a mom, but still set personal goals for yourself, and achieve them. We had worked so hard to get to this point. I will say that aside from the foot injury, this was easier than I expected (although I am MUCH more sore than I expected as well!) I have missed running, and it felt great to be out there with all those people (14,000 running)! Unfortunately, my sister-in-law was going to run with us, and when I told her I wasn't running, she didn't come. Since I decided last minute, she missed out on the race. She is much more experienced in these things than I am- she does Iron Mans- and I cannot imagine doing something that hard after doing this! Great Job Juli, who I barely knew when I asked her to do this crazy thing with me, and readily said yes. And for the past 2 weeks we thought she would be running alone, and she was a great sport about everything. This was a great experience, and I look forward to doing more (after I heal!)
Happy Valentines Day!

While all my creative friends are cutting and pasting to make the most adorable valentines cards for their kids, I am snapping pictures, sending them to Walgreens, and having the most generic cards ever made! I'm sure all the kids in Channing's class will love getting the cards with pictures of Channing and Jaxson on them- but it's cheaper to buy in bulk :)! Paxton and I will spend Valentines day in the "Country Inn" in Austin with both kids in one room- VERY ROMANTIC. I am going to watch my friend run our race, and am thinking I may go ahead and run as well. I feel pretty good- foot doesn't hurt at all. May be the dumbest thing I have ever done. I promised Paxton not to complain if I can't walk for a month.
How it feels to sleep/ Update on marathon/ Update on House

Well, I have basically been on a newborn schedule for the past 7 months. Jaxson has only taken VERY short naps, and has been up 2 and 3 times a night. The whites of my eyes are yellow, my skin looks terrible- basically I look about 60. And I feel about 80. But we are finally making progress! He is still sometimes waking up once during the night- but for the most part is sleeping from 8 or 8:30pm- 4 or 5am. I know- that doesn't sound great. But believe me.... it is better than waking up 11, 2, 4, 6!!! With still only 6 hours of sleep, I feel like a new person!
For the bad news, I have been training for 4 months for a 1/2 marathon, and have injured my foot. I am now wearing a BIG UGLY BOOT and will not be running my race this Sunday. My friend Juli will be running alone, so I will at least go cheer her on. Channing DOES NOT LIKE THE BOOT! She is very fashion conscious and has cried for me to take it off since I got home from the dr.
We met with the builder today and foundation should be poured within the next week. We finalized door and window selections today. Very excited!

I feel like I have done a pretty okay job of keeping everyone informed of all the changes in our lives, and we all know I have BOMBARDED you with pictures of my little ones every chance I get. However, this will make it easier to keep in touch and update everyone at once.
We moved from Melissa when Jaxson was 1 month old (he is now 7 months, and Channing is 3 1/2). For the first 2 weeks or so I drove around this town looking for something to like, and it was a struggle. Raging hormones DID NOT help. But now we have settled in, met some WONDERFUL people, and feel at home here. We're close to San Antonio, close to the beach, have more time as a family, and overall feel we made the right decision. Being so far from family is hard, but that's the only real drawback. We are renting a house that we moved into expecting to purchase, but have now decided to build a home in a nearby neighborhood on 1.7 acres. We just closed on the loan, and construction should start within a week or so. It is about 2500 sq. ft., 4 bedrooms with a playroom- and the lot is covered in trees.
Everyone is doing fine... Paxton is enjoying his new management position and is looking forward to all the great hunting here. I started running again this year, and will run a 1/2 marathon on Feb. 15 with my friend Juli, and my sister-in-law Laura. Julie and I ran 9 miles on Sunday- our longest run EVER, and it was pretty easy! I am also really working on learning photography, and would love to have my own studio eventually. I also just returned from a girl's trip to Mexico for my best friend Stacie's 30th birthday. My wonderful family let me go and kept my babies, so I am thankful to them! Channing loves dance and is doing great at the church school 2 days a week. She is like a sponge, and picks everything up, good or bad! She learned to snap, which just adds to her sassy vocabulary, and it's hard not to laugh. Jaxson is crawling, pulling up, and generally a pleasure most of the time (if he would only sleep all night!).
I look forward to updating this blog, and hope to receive updates from you all as well!
